Over the last week, heavy rains have affected the states of Merida, Portuguesa, Trujillo, Barinas, and Tachira.
On Thursday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro confirmed that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Civil Protection, police forces and subnational authorities are actively involved in a special response plan to address the aftermath of heavy rains that have severely affected the states of Merida, Portuguesa, Trujillo, Barinas, and Tachira.

The Bolivarian leader also mentioned that while the intense rainfall across 46 municipalities has not caused any fatalities, it has resulted in significant damage to public infrastructure and private homes.
In Merida state, 370 homes have been affected — 103 of them completely destroyed, 151 considered at high risk and 116 partially damaged. Additionally, 8,456 families have been left isolated due to the collapse of roads and bridges.
In Portuguesa state, around 6,000 hectares of crops have been affected, and more than 1,300 people have suffered losses following rainfall in eight municipalities. “We have many landslides and collapses in the highland areas of the state,” Governor Primitivo Cedeño said.
The text reads, “Heavy rains have affected several states in Venezuela, causing destruction to homes and public spaces. Local authorities have declared a state of emergency in the affected regions.”
Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello sent heavy machinery to Portuguesa to repair a bridge on the Jose Antonio Paez Highway, which connects the Andes and central regions of the country. Work on the highway — which handles about 16,000 vehicles per day — is expected to be completed in about 60 days.
In Trujillo state, authorities have deployed teams to six of the most heavily impacted municipalities, where 92 homes were reported destroyed.
In Tachira state, about 870 families were left isolated after both access roads to the region were blocked. FANB, Civil Protection and police personnel are assisting residents in the state, where authorities have demolished 85 homes due to massive land displacement.
In Apure state, authorities assisted more than 640 families from Indigenous communities, providing medical care, food, and cooking gas.
