Venezuela Holds Electoral Simulation to Ensure Readiness for May 25 Elections

Candidates, military leaders, and citizens across Venezuela mobilized on Friday for the Simulacro Electoral Venezuela 2025, a nationwide drill aimed at preparing voters and electoral authorities for the critical regional and legislative elections scheduled for May 25.

Political Leaders Emphasize Democratic Preparedness

Candidates from the ruling Gran Polo Patriótico Simón Bolívar (GPPSB) coalition urged citizens to participate in the simulation, framing it as a cornerstone of electoral transparency. Arnaldo Sánchez, GPPSB candidate for Mérida state, called the exercise “essential to fortify democracy,” while Delta Amacuro gubernatorial candidate Loa Tamaronis described it as a way to “fine-tune our machinery” for the upcoming vote.

Major General Jesús Suárez Chourio of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) praised the drill as a reflection of “the people’s will to preserve peace and harmony,” emphasizing the speed and fluidity of the voting process. Nicolás Maduro Guerra, GPPSB candidate for the National Assembly (AN), echoed this sentiment, noting Venezuela’s historical commitment to democratic milestones.

Nationwide Participation and Electoral Efficiency

From Caracas to Anzoátegui, citizens flooded over 73 designated voting centers to practice using Venezuela’s automated voting system. In Miranda state, GPPSB gubernatorial candidate Elio Serrano highlighted the drill’s role in “familiarizing voters with the process,” a sentiment reinforced by Zulia candidate Luis Caldera, who praised the system’s “security and speed.”

Caracas Mayor Nahum Fernández, who cast his mock ballot at a local school, credited the drill’s efficiency to “cutting-edge electoral technology” and tied the event to broader governance goals under the slogan “Gente que Resuelve” (People Who Solve). He also linked the exercise to the “7 Transformations” initiative, which he claimed has driven “profound changes” in Venezuelan society.

Social Measures and Economic Priorities

Amid electoral preparations, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez announced plans to distribute over 10,000 tons of subsidized protein nationwide in May to combat food insecurity. She simultaneously condemned “price speculation by unscrupulous merchants,” vowing immediate government action to stabilize essential goods’ costs.

Voter Confidence and Next Steps

Pedro Infante, head of the Plan Antonio José de Sucre, reported “overwhelming turnout” in the simulation, citing collaboration between communities, social movements, and electoral authorities. AN candidate Vanesa Montero deemed the drill a success, stating it “strengthens trust in the National Electoral Council (CNE).”
