Venezuela denounces Israel’s deadly attack on Palestinians during the delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza, calling it a grave violation of international law and a weapon of war. Calls grow louder to act against impunity as casualties rise.

On Thursday, the Venezuelan government issued a strong condemnation of what it described as a “massacre” perpetrated by Israeli forces during the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, leaving at least 91 dead and over 800 injured Palestinians. The tragedy took place as the besieged Gaza population desperately sought food and medical supplies amid relentless bombings and an acute shortage of basic necessities.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil denounced the operation as a “deadly ambush,” stating, “The use of food as a trap and aid as a weapon represents one of the most despicable crimes of this century.”

Gil insisted this was not merely an incident but “a deliberate extermination operation, protected by the impunity granted by the inaction of the multilateral system.” His remarks echo longstanding critiques from Global South voices that humanitarian corridors have been cynically used as pretexts for intensified attacks on the Palestinian people, increasing their suffering and desperation.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that the attack happened as civilians approached the only open northern Gaza crossing to collect promised supplies; most of the wounded were shot near trucks carrying humanitarian goods.

The text reads: We absolutely and firmly condemn the massacre perpetrated by the Zionist regime of Israel against Palestinian civilians during an alleged distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza. Under the guise of assistance, what was carried out was a deadly ambush against a hungry, besieged, and relentlessly bombed people.

The use of food as a trap and aid as a weapon represents one of the most despicable crimes of this century. This was not an “incident,” but a deliberate extermination operation, protected by the impunity granted by the inaction of the multilateral system.

We denounce this act of barbarity as part of an ongoing genocide. What happened is an affront to humanitarian law and an attack against every notion of humanity.

Medical staff at Al Shifa Hospital, overwhelmed by the influx of casualties, described scenes of chaos and devastation as victims’ bodies arrived, including children and elderly targeted while seeking sustenance.

This recent tragedy mobilized journalists, social leaders, and diplomats who gathered in Caracas earlier this week to reaffirm the Global South’s firm support for the Palestinian cause. Communicators from across Latin America emphasized the urgent need to “defend the truth” and counter what they see as silence and complicity by dominant powers and Western media. Participants reiterated solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and called on progressive movements worldwide to maintain pressure for a just peace.

At the recent High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, Venezuela’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN, Joaquin Perez, urged the international community to take decisive action to stop “colonization, illegal occupation, and systematic violence.”

Speaking for the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, Perez argued the path to peace is blocked by the unwavering support given by the United States to the Israeli state, most clearly seen in repeated UN vetoes and continued weapon and funding flows sustaining the occupation.

The text reads: No one should risk death just to eat.

UN teams bring food to Gaza, but Israeli forces fire warning shots just inches from hungry civilians waiting for aid.
This is not help. This is humiliation under fire.

“The complicity of the US and the inaction of international institutions enable ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people,” Perez affirmed. Venezuela and its allied nations reiterated their commitment to upholding international law and demanded real measures, not just words,to achieve a lasting, just peace based on dignity and sovereignty for the Palestinian people.
