Presidents Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela and Mahmoud Pesheskian of Iran held a cordial phone call on Monday to reaffirm their countries’ growing strategic alliance.
The leaders emphasized the “excellent” state of bilateral relations and agreed to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in August with major celebrations.
During the call, both heads of state reiterated their commitment to deepening cooperation across vital sectors including energy, health, science, technology, agriculture, and industry, under the framework of a 20-year Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed in 2022.
President Pesheskian expressed gratitude for Venezuela’s vocal support following the recent Israeli attack on Iranian territory, and endorsed Venezuela’s proposal to convene a Global Peace Summit, intended to promote a comprehensive and just resolution to the crisis in West Asia, with a particular focus on the plight of the Palestinian people.
President Maduro echoed those sentiments, stating his belief that diplomacy can consolidate the Iranian people’s right to peace and development.
The conversation reflects a continued tightening of relations between Tehran and Caracas, whose governments have built a partnership defined by geopolitical solidarity and joint resistance to Western sanctions.
