In a significant demonstration of South-South cooperation, Venezuela and Egypt have intensified diplomatic consultations to coordinate efforts aimed at advancing international peace.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, engaged in a productive telephone conversation focused on President Nicolas Maduro’s proposal for a Summit for Peace and Against War, alongside Egyptian initiatives to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The Summit for Peace and Against War, championed by President Maduro, seeks to build a global consensus to resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than violence. This initiative aligns with the broader anti-imperialist and anti-war principles upheld by nations of the Global South, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and peaceful dispute resolution.

Minister Gil highlighted the importance of this exchange, noting on his Telegram account that the conversation with Minister Abdelatty was “important” and centered on mutual efforts to bring about peace and stability in conflict zones, particularly Gaza.

The relationship between Caracas and Cairo extends beyond diplomatic dialogue into concrete programs that bolster both nations’ development. Venezuelan personnel receive specialized training in gas production in Egypt, facilitating knowledge transfer in a vital energy sector. Similarly, scholarships from the Egyptian International Center for Agriculture support Venezuelan professionals, enhancing food security capabilities in Venezuela.

The text reads: We held an important telephone conversation with the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, with whom we exchanged views on President Nicolás Maduro’s initiative for a Summit for Peace and Against War, the Egyptian proposals to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the promotion of bilateral relations within the framework of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, which will be celebrated next November.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude for the invitation extended to his country as guest of honor at the Venezuela International Book Fair (FILVEN), which is being successfully held at the National Art Gallery.

These collaborative efforts exemplify the solidarity and practical cooperation characteristic of the Global South’s approach to development, contrasting with the extractive and hegemonic models imposed by imperialist powers.

The presence of Egyptian companies in Venezuela’s Orinoco Oil Belt underscores the trust and potential for expanded economic cooperation, particularly in energy, where Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves. This partnership is a testament to the shared commitment between the two nations to foster sustainable development and resist external economic pressures.

The diplomatic momentum between Venezuela and Egypt, especially as they approach the 75th anniversary of formal relations this November, reflects a broader commitment by countries of the Global South to construct a more just international system.

Their joint efforts in promoting peace and development embody the principles of mutual respect and peaceful conflict resolution, challenging the militaristic and interventionist policies often pursued by Western powers.
