Via Telegram, the Venezuelan FM said he had a “productive phone call” with his Algerian counterpart, during which they agreed on “the importance of strengthening political and economic alliances” between the two countries.

In this regard, they highlighted the work of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, and that of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to “move towards a multipolar world and promote south-south cooperation.”

Last month, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey, both officials reviewed “the strategic relationship” and the “strong bilateral cooperation”, as Gil then said, who also expressed that Algeria “has proved to be a fundamental ally in the search for solutions to economic and geopolitical challenges”.

Algeria and Venezuela have strengthened their diplomatic, political, economic and trade relations since 2022, relaunching the High-level Joint Commission and signing more than 38 cooperation agreements.

These relations, which date back to 1971, have intensified with the Bolivarian Revolution, prompting the signing of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding that demonstrate the growing brotherhood between both countries.

In October 2024, Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro made a technical stopover in the African country on his return from the BRICS summit held in Russia and then met with the Algerian prime minister, Nadir Larbaoui, at the airport of Algiers.
