On Thursday, Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez received a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump, during which he confirmed that commercial air connections with Venezuela “will open very soon.”

“I just spoke with the President of Venezuela and informed her that we are going to open all commercial airspace over Venezuela,” Trump announced during a meeting with his Cabinet at the White House.

He also instructed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and other officials involved, including military authorities, to ensure that Venezuelan airspace is reopened no later than the end of the day.

“I want to thank the leadership of Venezuela. We get along very well with them. Relations have been very strong, very good. American citizens will be able to travel to Venezuela very soon and they will be safe there, because it will be under very strict control,” the U.S. president said.

“And people who previously lived in Venezuela — some want to return, and others want to visit — and they will be able to do so,” he added.

The Republican leader also linked the reopening of commercial flights between the United States and Venezuela as a harbinger of economic prosperity, especially for the energy sector.

“Tremendous wealth will flow to Venezuela and the United States. And oil companies will do well too. Venezuela will earn more money than ever before,” Trump stressed.

In November 2025, the U.S. president announced that airspace over the South American country would remain completely closed.

The last U.S. airline to operate routes between the U.S. and Venezuela was American Airlines, which suspended all commercial flights in 2019, when the two countries severed diplomatic relations.
