“Today we concluded another round of talks between Iran and the United States in Muscat. The talks contributed useful and original ideas that reflect the shared desire to reach an honorable agreement,” said the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, in a message on his X account.

The head of Omani diplomacy added that the fifth round of talks “will take place once both parties have consulted their leaders,” without providing further details.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister said the fourth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in Muscat concluded with remarkable progress, although without reaching a final agreement.

Araqchi, stressed that this cycle of dialogue was “more serious” than previous ones, as they focused on specific technical aspects, which, although more challenging, proved to be more productive.

The Iranian FM noted that, despite the complexity, both parties have achieved “a better mutual understanding of their positions”. He stressed that there was a rapprochement on central issues in dispute, although he avoided giving specific details.

“The positions are now a little closer,” he said, without mentioning whether the thorny issue of US sanctions or limits to Iranian nuclear activity was addressed.

During a cabinet meeting, Iranian president Masud Pezeshkian stressed that his country “negotiates to show it does not seek war,” but will adamantly maintain its peaceful nuclear rights.

“We have never pursued or will pursue nuclear weapons, but under no circumstances will we give up our legitimate nuclear technology,” Pezeshkian said in a message to the international community.

The leader recalled that Iran’s nuclear activities are governed by a fatwa (religious decree) of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, which prohibits atomic weapons, and stressed that those achievements are fruit “the blood of the martyrs and the effort of our scientists.”

The United States for its part, described the fourth round of nuclear negotiations with Iran as “encouraging,” and noted that “an agreement was reached to advance the talks and continue working on the technical elements.”
