The Trump administration sanctions the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Palestinian Authority (PA), accusing them of undermining peace and “internationalizing” the conflict, while Israel acts with impunity amid a devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

On Thursday, the United States government, under President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, announced sanctions against officials from the Palestine Liberation Organization and Palestinian National Authority.

These sanctions include visa bans that prevent these officials from traveling to the US, justified by accusations that the Palestinian entities are violating prior agreements and pursuing legal action against Israel at the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice.

This move aligns with Washington’s longstanding anti-Palestinian stance and support for Tel Aviv, while sidestepping calls for Israel to respect UN resolutions and international law amid its ongoing military campaign in Gaza.

The timing of these punitive measures comes as Gaza endures a man-made famine and an escalating death toll that exceeds 60,000 Palestinians killed by Israeli raids and bombings, with over 100 deaths attributed to starvation.

The United Nations and human rights groups have condemned Israel’s actions as tantamount to genocide. Despite mounting evidence and accusations from Jewish Israeli human rights organizations such as B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, the US has doubled down on its political and military support for Israel, undermining Palestinian efforts to seek justice and protection through international legal bodies.

With an increasing number of countries ,including France, the UK, and Canada ,moving to recognize Palestine officially at the United Nations, Washington has responded with threats and coercive measures.

President Trump labeled these recognition efforts as “rewards for terrorism” and warned of trade repercussions, particularly targeting Canada’s potential stance. This aggressive posture not only impedes prospects for peace but also reinforces the geopolitical divide that isolates Palestine and enables Israel’s ongoing violations.

The sanctions accuse the PLO and PA of “internationalizing” the conflict and supporting terrorism, charges rooted in Palestine’s plea for justice and accountability in international courts.

However, these allegations mask the systemic violence and occupation perpetuated by Israel, shielded by US political protection. The blockade and military offensives have plunged millions into desperation, reinforcing a cycle of violence and denying Palestinians basic human rights.

The US’s unilateral actions further scandalize the international community and obstruct a just resolution grounded in respect for Palestinian sovereignty and human dignity.
