The UN has reported that Gaza is facing catastrophic hunger, describing it as “the hungriest place on Earth” due to severe restrictions on humanitarian aid.

According to Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the entire population of Gaza is at risk of famine, making it one of the most obstructed aid operations in recent history.

Despite nearly 900 aid trucks being approved to enter Gaza via Kerem Shalom, less than 600 have been offloaded, and even fewer have been distributed due to congested and insecure routes assigned by Israeli authorities.

The limited aid supply has led to desperate crowds overrunning a UN World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Deir Al-Balah, where two people were killed in the chaos.
