The U.S. special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, claimed on Tuesday that it is almost impossible for Iran to restart its nuclear program following the U.S. airstrikes on three of its facilities, despite what a leaked American intelligence report suggested.

According to the preliminary analysis reported by the American press, Iran’s nuclear program has only been delayed by a few months after the offensive against the Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow sites.

Witkoff dismissed reports suggesting that the U.S. failed to achieve its objective as “completely absurd,” accusing those responsible for leaking the information of betrayal. He emphasized that the leak must be investigated and those responsible held accountable.

Echoing statements from President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Witkoff alleged that the bombings achieved their goal and helped facilitate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. He stressed that it’s time to reach a peace agreement, underscoring that any eventual deal would prohibit uranium enrichment.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated several times that Tehran neither owns nor aims to build any nuclear weapons. On his X profile, he asserted that “Iran’s longstanding commitment to the global nonproliferation regime is clear,” noting that “Iran signed the NPT as a founding member in 1968.”

An initial assessment prepared by the United States Defense Intelligence Agency and Central Command concluded that the recent U.S. attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran did not destroy the main infrastructure of the nuclear program, according to CNN.

Trump lashed out at CNN and MSNBC, accusing them of spreading fake news, particularly for what he saw as downplaying the impact of the U.S. attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
