Military aircraft from the United States carried out a series of airstrikes on Friday morning in Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, striking residential areas and strategic locations across multiple districts, according to reports from Al Mayadeen.
The first bombing hit Asr, in the Al-Wahda district, southwest of the capital. Shortly after, two additional airstrikes targeted Attan, in southern Sana’a, while another U.S. air incursion reached Hamdan, in the north of the city.
These latest attacks add to the escalating offensive witnessed on Thursday, when four airstrikes struck the Khab al-Sha’af district in Al-Jawf governorate, located in northeastern Yemen.
Washington’s Expanding Air Campaign
In recent weeks, the U.S. has intensified its aerial operations in Yemen, aiming to weaken Houthi forces and regain control over maritime trade routes in the Red Sea. On Monday, U.S. warplanes launched multiple strikes across the governorates of Sana’a, Amran, and Saada, further expanding the scope of the military campaign.
Since March 15, Washington claims to have targeted over 800 sites in Yemen as part of its effort to break the naval blockade imposed by Yemeni forces on Israeli-linked shipping routes. The campaign, ordered by President Donald Trump, has escalated sharply, raising concerns about its impact on civilians and regional stability.
With Yemen already suffering from one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, continued bombardments threaten to exacerbate the suffering of millions. Let me know if you’d like refinements or additional context!
