The U.S. project was described as ‘the epitome of selfishness, arrogance, despotism and arbitrariness.’
On Tuesday, North Korea accused U.S. President Donald Trump of trying to promote a potential scenario of nuclear war in space with his proposed “Golden Dome” — a missile defense system with space-based interceptors he plans to build in the coming years.

The establishment of the new system “constitutes a very dangerous ‘threatening initiative’ aimed at undermining the strategic security of nuclear-armed states that the U.S. deems hostile and facilitating the offensive military use of its forces,” said a document published by the Institute for American Studies of North Korea’s Foreign Ministry.
The document described the U.S. project as “the epitome of selfishness, arrogance, despotism and arbitrariness of that country,” claiming it is not a measure to counter any threat, but rather “a space nuclear war scenario that supports the U.S. strategy of unipolar domination through the preemptive establishment of space military infrastructure.”
North Korea accused Washington of attempting to militarize outer space, calling the plan “a pretext” to justify its “hegemonic actions for weapons development” and to maintain “its military subjugation,” adding that it would also be “the trigger of a global nuclear and space arms race.” The North Korean government further warned that the system would pose a risk to satellite security.
In March, the U.S. President announced his intention to build the Golden Dome “to protect the homeland,” estimating its cost at about US$175 billion.
The system is expected to be completed by the end of his term in 2029. However, the U.S. Congressional Budget Office has estimated that actual spending could exceed US$500 billion over 20 years to create a fully operational Golden Dome.
For North Korea, this suggests the project “is the largest weapons development plan in history,” and it believes the only way to reliably guarantee its own security and that of the region is “through the symmetry of an incomparable power” capable of responding to current and future challenges.
