Previously, the scandal over the leak of confidential military information undermined his standing within the cabinet.
On Thursday, U.S. media reported that President Donald Trump will dismiss National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong.

The trigger appears to have been the “Signalgate” scandal, which came to light after Waltz apparently added, by mistake, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic magazine to a chat room where, for four days, cabinet members discussed preparations for a military strike carried out in Yemen on March 15.
In the Signal chat, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed sensitive information, including targets and deployed military assets. He even disclosed the schedule for a strike on Houthi rebels two hours in advance, which could have endangered U.S. troops.
“I take full responsibility. I created the group. It’s embarrassing. We’re going to get to the bottom of this,” Waltz said, acknowledging the error when the case became public, in an interview with Fox News.
According to The Wall Street Journal, however, Trump and senior officials were already dissatisfied with Waltz before the controversy emerged. Waltz hired advisors who failed to convince supporters of the ‘Make America Great Again’ movement. He also held tougher stances on Ukraine and Iran that clashed with those of other senior officials in the Trump administration.
As a result, Waltz had been sidelined from negotiations on a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. On Tuesday, he was expected to attend the commemoration of the first 100 days of Trump’s second term but did not show up at the event in Michigan.
“Waltz is the first. He certainly won’t be the last,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Thursday, after the U.S. press reported the news.
