U.S. President Donald Trump will send Patriot missile interceptors to the Ukrainian regime amid Russia’s special operation, but stated that the European Union (EU) will be the one paying for them, a deal he is expected to seal on Monday when he meets with NATO chief Mark Rutte.

The Republican leader told reporters that Ukraine needs to be protected, and although he has not yet agreed on the exact number of missile systems to be sent, he considers this move a business deal since the EU will be covering all the expenses.

The Patriot systems are considered among the U.S. military’s top anti-ballistic defense weapons, capable of intercepting both land- and air-launched attacks.

The text reads: Russia warns that it is unrealistic to expect a quick resolution to the conflict with Ukraine, following statements by Trump admitting that the differences between the two countries are more complex than he had thought.

Trump had previously indicated on Thursday that he reached an agreement to sell NATO allies weaponry that they can then pass on to Ukraine. This is expected to be a central topic in his talks with Rutte, who will be in Washington D.C. on July 14 and 15.

“I’m gonna have a meeting with the secretary general who’s coming in tomorrow (…) But we basically are going to send them various pieces of very sophisticated (weapons) and they’re gonna pay us 100% for them,” Trump said. He also claimed that the U.S. has given $350 billion in aid to Ukraine, while Europe has only provided $100 billion.

On the other hand, Trump said he has an announcement to make on Monday regarding Russia, following weeks of expressing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a MAGA ally, suggested that the announcement could involve a new package of sanctions against Moscow. He is advocating for legislation that would allow Trump to impose measures such as a 500% tariff on countries supporting Russia’s endeavors in Ukraine.
