Trump Revives Conspiracy Claims Against Obama Amid Epstein Backlash
Trump escalated his claims of a conspiracy led by Barack Obama while facing renewed pressure from his base over unfulfilled promises to release evidence related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.

U.S. President Donald Trump intensified his attacks on former Democratic President Barack Obama on Tuesday, accusing him of orchestrating a conspiracy against him—a move critics say is intended to distract from renewed scrutiny over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

When asked about growing public interest in “Epstein’s list” and the upcoming prison deposition of his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell, Trump claimed he was not closely following the case.
During a lengthy and disjointed speech in the Oval Office—delivered while hosting Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.—Trump asserted that the true “witch hunt” was the one in which former President Obama was allegedly caught off guard.
The Republican leader cited a report from his intelligence director, Tulsi Gabbard, who last week called for legal action against several former Obama administration officials, alleging they conspired to undermine the legitimacy of Trump’s 2016 election victory.
“Obama’s been caught directly. People say it was a group—it’s not a group, it’s Obama. His orders are on the paper. The papers are signed. The papers came right out of their office. They sent everything to be highly classified (…) What they did in 2016 and 2020 was very criminal (…) They tried to steal the election,” Trump said, once again repeating his unproven claim that the 2020 election, which he lost to Joe Biden, was stolen.
Obama dismissed Trump’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated. According to his spokesperson, Patrick Rodenbush, the Obama team generally avoids responding to what they see as Trump’s frequent spread of misinformation but considered these particular claims outrageous enough to warrant a formal rebuttal.
Trump’s administration has accused former Obama-era officials of leaking false intelligence to the media, including reports published by The Washington Post that claimed Russia interfered in the 2016 election using cyber tactics.
Trump also took aim at a familiar list of targets: his 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI Director James Comey, and former President Joe Biden.
Despite his provocative rhetoric, Trump’s statements have failed to quell growing dissatisfaction among his own MAGA base. Discontent has intensified following the FBI’s conclusion that there is no Epstein “client list” and its reaffirmation that the disgraced financier died by suicide.
Trump supporters are now demanding he fulfill his earlier promise to release all evidence related to Epstein’s case—especially after a recent Wall Street Journal article revealed a letter Trump is said to have sent to Epstein during the years they were friendly. Trump has flatly denied the letter’s authenticity, calling it “fake.”
