Earlier, the Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman warned that the U.S. ultimatum could lead to a new conflict.

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in response to statements made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who warned of a possible war between the two countries.

“Based on the highly provocative statements of the former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two nuclear submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this will not be one of those instances,” the U.S. president added.

Earlier, on Monday, Medvedev criticized the ultimatum the United States issued to Russia to halt the war in Ukraine and warned that such actions could lead to a new conflict.

The text reads, “China rejects Trump’s ultimatum and will not stop buying Russian oil and gas. ‘China will always guarantee its energy supply in ways that serve our national interests. Tariff wars have no winners. Coercion and pressure will not achieve anything. China will firmly defend its sovereignty, security and development interests,’ the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry Stated.”

“Trump is playing the ultimatum game with Russia. Fifty or 10 days — he should remember two things. First: Russia is neither Israel nor even Iran. And second: each new ultimatum is a step toward war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country,” Medvedev said.

The Republican leader, who has for months expressed frustration over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to halt his country’s special military operation, shortened the deadline to 10 days for Russia to agree to a truce with Ukraine.

In another post on his social media platform, the U.S. president said the Russia-Ukraine war “should never have happened” and again blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the current situation. “I’m only here to see if I can stop it!” Trump wrote.
