In a recent statement, U.S. President Donald Trump disregarded French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement about recognizing Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly, undermining international efforts for peace. Macron’s move faces strong opposition from Washington and Tel Aviv amid ongoing Palestinian suffering in Gaza.

In a clear display of imperial disregard U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed French President Emmanuel Macron’s announced intention to recognize the State of Palestine at the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly in September. Speaking to the media just an hour ago, Trump coldly remarked,
“The good news is: what he says doesn’t matter (…) He’s a good guy, I like him. But his statement has no weight.”
This blatant dismissal echoes Washington’s long-standing opposition to any moves advancing Palestinian sovereignty and reflects the continuous erasure of Palestinian rights under U.S. foreign policy.
Macron’s pledge signals a rare moment for European powers to openly challenge the Israeli occupation and support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination amidst decades of colonial violence.
President Macron’s announcement to formally recognize Palestine comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza reaches alarming levels. Macron underscored the urgency, stating,
“The urgent need today is for the war in Gaza to end and for the civilian population to be rescued.”
Consistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine.

Yet, this progressive stance is immediately met with fierce rejection from both Washington and Tel Aviv. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the move, accusing it of
“promoting terrorism and risking the creation of another Iranian proxy state, as happened with Gaza.”
Netanyahu’s statement reveals the reactionary fear within the Zionist regime: the existence of a Palestinian state is portrayed as a direct threat to Israel’s apartheid structure and its oppressive machinery of ethnic cleansing.
By dismissing Macron’s diplomatic initiative, Trump reaffirms the imperial commitment to maintaining the status quo of occupation and colonial violence in Palestine.
