President Donald Trump claims the United States will block any Israeli attempt to formally annex the occupied West Bank—despite pressure from far-right Israeli politicians pushing for full assimilation of the territory.

“I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. It’s not going to happen,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “There’s been enough. It’s time to stop now.”
His comments coincided with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrival in New York to address the United Nations, at a moment when speculation swirls over Israel’s response to the recent recognition of Palestinian statehood by the UK, Australia, France, Canada, Portugal, and several other countries.
Zionist officials have hinted that any move by Netanyahu—whether full annexation, partial annexation along border zones, or the closure of consulates in East Jerusalem—would be closely coordinated with Washington.
Netanyahu, however, is under mounting pressure from far-right partners in his governing coalition who insist on annexation, a demand that has unsettled Arab capitals. Arab and Muslim leaders personally urged Trump during meetings at the UN General Assembly to halt any annexation push, warning of “serious consequences” across the region.
The West Bank, under Israeli occupation since the 1967 war, has witnessed relentless settlement expansion. Roughly 700,000 Israeli settlers now live alongside 2.7 million Palestinians. Projects such as the controversial E1 settlement plan risk slicing the territory in two and severing its link to East Jerusalem. While most of the international community deems the settlements illegal under international law, Tel Aviv’s regime refuses to admit that characterization.
