Massive crowds flooded the streets of Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, on Friday in a powerful show of solidarity with Iran and the Palestinian people in Gaza, as the region reels from intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran.
Protesters waved Iranian and Palestinian flags, chanting slogans against Israel and the United States, while declaring unwavering support for what they called the “resistance front”. Demonstrations also took place in surrounding districts, including Manakhah, al-Haymah, and Sa’fan, according to local media.
The protests were held under the banner “Steady with Gaza and Iran against Zionist-American crimes”, with participants calling for general mobilization and expressing readiness for confrontation. The rallies were endorsed by Ansar Allah (the Houthis), whose leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi has declared the Gaza and Iran fronts as part of a single, unified struggle.
The demonstrations come amid a deadly escalation that began on June 13, when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites, killing at least 657 people, including 263 civilians, and injuring over 2,000, according to a U.S.-based Iranian human rights group.
In retaliation, Iran has fired 450 missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel, according to Israeli military sources. At least 24 people in Israel have been killed, with hundreds more wounded.
Meanwhile, Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 55,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
