‘We are honoring two networks that have endured through very difficult times,’ teleSUR President Patricia Villegas said.

On Thursday, the multi-platform outlet teleSUR and the pan-Arab network Al Mayadeen signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to amplify the voices of the Global South on a global scale.

The signing ceremony took place at the Romulo Gallegos Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CELARG) in Caracas, Venezuela, as part of a recognition event honoring 20 years of service by teleSUR employees.

Ghassan Ben Jeddou, president of the Al Mayadeen Network’s Board of Directors, said one of the goals of the alliance with teleSUR is to create an international media network representing the Global South, bringing together platforms that share common principles, causes and editorial lines. He also emphasized that Al Mayadeen and teleSUR are more than just media institutions.

“We are allies and partners in principles and decisions, and over the past 10 years, we have set the best example of sincere cooperation — with affection, professionalism and a high technical standard,” Ben Jeddou said.

“Cooperation is the only way to confront the unbridled offensive of imperialist forces,” he added, stressing the strategic importance of counter-hegemonic media in the Global South.

“A thousand thanks to my beloved teleSUR family and to my dear sister, teleSUR President Patricia Villegas, for welcoming me so warmly,” Ben Jeddou said emotionally.

“teleSUR and Al Mayadeen are the channels of the future — with confidence and merit. We complement each other, we do not compete; we ally, we do not oppose each other. We strengthen our alliance without opportunism or betrayal,” he emphasized.

For her part, Patricia Villegas highlighted that the signing of the MoU formalizes the collaboration between Al Mayadeen and teleSUR, which had been gradually strengthening for some time.

“We are honoring two networks that have endured through very difficult times and have supported one another. We have stood firm in our convictions before the peoples of Gaza and Lebanon and their resistance,” she said.
