Iran rejected on Friday the accusations made by 15 Western countries, which condemned in a joint statement the “growing threats” posed by Iranian intelligence services in their respective territories.

“Repeating baseless and ridiculous accusations against Iran is a clear distraction tactic and an attempt to divert public opinion from the most important issue at the moment, which is the genocide in occupied Palestine,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei in a statement.

He added that these accusations against the Islamic Republic are “blatant lies” and a “desperate escape forward” as part of a “malicious Iranophobia campaign aimed at putting pressure on the Iranian people.”

On that line, Baghaei referred to the recent unprovoked war carried out by the U.S. and Israel against Iran, as well as the Zionist genocide in Gaza, taking place with the “active support or silence” of the countries that signed the declaration against Tehran.

The joint statement against the Islamic Republic was signed by the governments of the U.S., the U.K., Albania, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson stressed that this behavior “violates the principles of international law and the UN Charter” and emphasized that the countries that signed the declaration “must be held accountable for their inappropriate and irresponsible conduct.”
