The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has issued a dire warning that Israel’s blockade is threatening Gaza’s entire population with famine, with 500,000 facing starvation as food supplies continue to dwindle.
The IPC report states that 93 percent of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents suffer from acute food shortages, with conditions worsening since October 2024. If Israel’s siege persists, the entire population will face crisis-level food insecurity or worse between May and September.
Authorities report at least 57 starvation deaths already due to the blockade. The crisis is particularly severe in northern Gaza and Rafah, where malnutrition is escalating.
Humanitarian System Collapse
For over 70 days, Israel has blocked all food, water, medicine, and life-saving supplies from entering Gaza, leaving essential resources either depleted or expected to run out within weeks.
The report warns that continued restrictions could lead to mass displacement and worsen civil unrest, as desperate populations compete over what little remains.
Food Prices Skyrocket Amid Desperation
The cost of wheat flour has increased by 3,000 percent since February, particularly in Deir el-Balah and Khan Younis, exacerbating the crisis.
The international community faces mounting pressure to intervene as humanitarian conditions reach catastrophic levels, with calls for urgent action to lift the blockade and prevent further starvation deaths.
