The tariff adjustment announced this Thursday by U.S. President Donald Trump set the levy above 30% for several countries with which no agreement has been reached, such as Switzerland, Serbia, or Myanmar.

However, most countries have benefited from the changes, which will come into effect on August 7 instead of this upcoming Friday, according to an executive order from the White House.

The countries worst affected by the new tariff list were Syria (41%), Laos (40%), and Myanmar (40%). However, the latter two managed to secure a reduction compared to the figure announced by Trump on April 2, when he released the original list of tariffs.

They are followed by several European economies, such as Switzerland, Serbia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, with tariffs of 39%, 35%, and 30%, respectively, due to the lack of a trade agreement.

The case of Switzerland is particularly notable, as President Trump imposed the highest increase on this country among all nations, since the tariff on Swiss imports was limited to 31% back on April 2.

Another U.S. ally that failed to finalize the desired agreement on time before this upcoming Friday was India, the fourth-largest economy in the world, which saw its tariffs reduced by only one point compared to the April list. Exports from New Delhi to the U.S. will currently be subject to a 25% tariff.
