The ongoing civil war in Sudan, now in its third year, has led to worsening food insecurity and a massive refugee influx into Chad, with over 1.2 million Sudanese seeking shelter in the country.

The UN Special Representative for Central Africa, Abdou Abarry, has raised concerns over the international community’s inaction, warning that the humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly.

Under the UN system, Chad is attempting to expand emergency humanitarian assistance and stabilization programs to accommodate the growing number of refugees. However, funding shortages and limited resources have made relief efforts increasingly difficult.

Abarry also cautioned that tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda pose a major security risk that could escalate into a broader regional crisis.

The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) has emphasized that Central Africa is facing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with over 13 million forcibly displaced people.
