Spain has announced an additional €500,000 in funding to support United Nations investigations into human rights violations and possible war crimes committed in Gaza, according to Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.
“With the aim of ending these violations of international law and ensuring accountability, we will support the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in strengthening its investigative efforts,” Albares stated, as reported by Anadolu Agency (AA).
Albares condemned the humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s prolonged aid blockade, describing it as “totally and absolutely unacceptable.” He accused Israel, the occupying power, of imposing “an unprecedented famine” on Palestinians.
“The urgent entry of food is necessary to save the lives of innocent Palestinians,” the foreign minister stressed. “The civilian population of Gaza deserves dignity and peace, and Spain demands it and will continue to demand it.”
During hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s obligations in the occupied Palestinian territories, Spain argued that restricting UN agencies from operating within these territories violates international law and the Palestinian right to self-determination.
As Spain steps up its support for international accountability measures, calls for an end to the blockade and urgent humanitarian relief grow louder.
