Moscow reports gains in Donetsk region while Ukrainian drone strikes hit several Russian territories overnight.
On Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the Zapad military group had liberated the village of Shandryholove, about 12 miles north of Sloviansk, one of Ukraine’s main strongholds in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

“Zapad units improved their tactical positions and liberated Shandryholove in the Donetsk region,” the Ministry said on Telegram, where it also released a video showing Russian soldiers raising the tricolor flag in the settlement.
According to the ministry, Zapad group forces attacked the village with artillery and drones, destroying Ukrainian military equipment, fortifications, and command posts. Afterward, assault groups entered enemy positions, cleared houses and facilities of the remaining Ukrainian garrison.
Russian forces are advancing in this sector of the front, moving toward the city of Siversk in an effort to push on to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, the main Ukrainian bastions in the region.
The text reads, “As Russian forces erect their flag at the Shandryholove settlement, north of Lyman. Shandryholove = Shandrigolovo.”
Meanwhile, Moscow Region Gov. Andrey Vorobyov confirmed on Monday that two Russian citizens were killed in a drone attack overnight in the Moscow region.
“Air defense systems shot down four drones over the Voskresensk and Kolomna districts. Unfortunately, a tragedy occurred in Voskresensk: a 76-year-old woman and her 6-year-old grandson died in a fire at a private residence,” Vorobyov said in a social media post.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that air defense forces had intercepted 84 drones overnight across multiple regions, including Bryansk, Belgorod, and Moscow.
