At the same time, Ukrainian forces opened fire on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant during a shift change of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors, according to plant representatives.
The Russian Defense Ministry condemned this attack, calling it an act of terrorism by Ukrainian forces. However, radiation levels remain within normal limits, and the plant’s security has not been compromised.
The 28th IAEA observer team, which arrived at the plant on Sunday morning, is composed of three international inspectors. Their mission is to monitor conditions at the plant and evaluate its safety.
Also on Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that its forces had carried out a series of coordinated strikes involving drones and missiles launched from land, air and sea.
The targets were Ukrainian industrial and military facilities, especially those linked to the production of missile components, radio-electronic equipment, explosives, and attack drones.
Russian military officials said the strikes hit electronic intelligence and satellite communications centers considered strategic to Ukraine’s armed forces.
In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that Russian air defenses shot down five Ukrainian drones heading toward the city. Three major Moscow airports — Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky — temporarily suspended operations to ensure flight safety.
Previously, the Russian Defense Ministry said that air defense systems had shot down 110 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight, including 13 near Moscow. Despite the interceptions, the overnight aerial assault targeted 11 regions across Russia and the Crimean Peninsula.
According to Russian authorities, Ukraine has launched more than 1,000 drones against Russian territory this week — the largest aerial campaign since the start of the war.
