His announcement came during the flag-raising ceremony for the submarine Kniaz Pozharsky in the city of Severodvinsk, according to the TASS news agency.
Over the past six years, Russia has built five Borei-A class submarines and five Yasen-M class submarines, Putin noted, adding that it is important to continue the serial production of Yasen-M submarines.
Putin said the construction of strategic nuclear submarines is a top priority for ensuring Russia’s relevance on the global stage.
“It is one of the most important components of the nuclear triad and allows Russia to maintain the balance of power in the world,” he said.
Putin also emphasized that Russian shipyards are currently building more than 70 vessels, which will serve to modernize the country’s Navy.
The Russian leader also plans to build at least nine submarines equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, including the Kronshtadt, which is part of the Project 677 Lada class and was commissioned by the Russian Navy in 2024.
