Volodymyrivka is located 15 kilometers northeast of Artyomovsk, while Rusyn Yar lies between the Ukrainian-controlled cities of Kostyantynivka and Pokrovsk. Earlier this week, the same grouping also liberated the settlements of Sukhetskoye and Pankivka, located northeast of Pokrovsk.
Over the past day, the Southern military grouping liberated the village of Katerynivka, 40 kilometers northeast of Sloviansk, after liberating Aleksandro-Shultino earlier this week, about 50 kilometers north of Donetsk, the regional capital.
This week, Russian forces also took control of Kolodezi, 30 kilometers northeast of Sloviansk, as well as Voronoye and Novoheorhiivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
On Thursday, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov announced that Colonel General Yevgeny Nikiforov had assumed command of the Northern military grouping, which operates between the Kursk and Kharkiv regions. Nikiforov replaces Colonel General Alexander Lapin as head of that force.
