The Russian Defense Ministry said the operation was a direct response to the escalation of terrorist acts carried out by the Kyiv regime against targets on Russian territory.
The Russian response involved the use of high-precision weapons launched from air, sea and land, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. The targets included design offices, facilities for the manufacture and repair of military equipment, assembly plants for attack drones, pilot training centers and weapons depots belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
During the assault, air raid sirens were activated across Ukrainian territory. Local media reported explosions in cities such as Kyiv, Lutsk, Chernihiv and Ternopil, as well as in the Khmelnytskyi and Lviv regions.
Last weekend, Ukrainian FPV drones attacked Russian military airfields in Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur. Ukraine also targeted civilian infrastructure, including railway bridges in Bryansk and Kursk, and buildings in the Kursk region, including a school and a cultural center. Recently, the Crimean Bridge—key infrastructure that links the peninsula with southern Russia—was targeted in another attack.
On Thursday, HIMARS missiles launched by Ukraine struck residential areas in Kursk, killing two women. In Voronezh, a railway line was damaged by an explosion.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin questioned the possibility of advancing peace negotiations with what he called a “regime that relies on terror.” He accused the Ukrainian government of degenerating into a terrorist organization and pointed to its Western allies as accomplices in such acts. “Who negotiates with terrorists?” Putin asked.
U.S. economist Jeffrey Sachs recently warned that Ukraine’s recent attacks on Russian airfields may have been carried out with the support of British intelligence agency MI6 and the CIA.
