‘We are deeply concerned about the escalation of military confrontation between India and Pakistan’ said Zakharova.

On Wednesday, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, urged India and Pakistan to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible to resolve all their differences.

“We call on both parties to exercise restraint and to return to the path of negotiations as soon as possible in order to resolve all their differences,” he said and admitted that the recent developments between the two countries are a matter of deep concern.

“We are deeply concerned about the escalation of military confrontation between India and Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Indian Kashmir),” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, stressing that her country strongly condemns terrorist acts.

“We urge the parties involved to act with restraint to prevent further deterioration of the situation in the region,” she said, adding that Russia hopes New Delhi and Islamabad will be able to resolve their disagreements through peaceful and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis.

Early this morning, India launched a series of coordinated attacks against 21 facilities on Pakistani soil. Pakistan has condemned these actions, and its Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, described the operation as a “blatant and unprovoked act of war.”

India and Pakistan, both nuclear powers that have been at odds for over half a century, are experiencing one of their most severe bilateral crises in recent decades, following an attack in Indian Kashmir on April 22 that killed 26 tourists—mostly Indian nationals—for which New Delhi blames Islamabad.

On Wednesday, the European Union stated that it is closely monitoring developments following India’s attack earlier this morning and also emphasized the need for a negotiated solution.

“We are closely following recent developments and reiterate our strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the terrible loss of life it caused,” said EU spokesperson Anouar El Anouni, who urged both parties to “show restraint and take immediate steps to de-escalate” and reiterated “the need for a peaceful, negotiated, mutually agreed, and lasting solution to the conflict.”
