The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued a broad arrest campaign in El-Daein, East Darfur, for a third consecutive day, detaining local officials and military personnel, local sources said on Wednesday.
The arrests followed changes in the RSF’s local leadership, with the detention of its intelligence chief, according to the sources. The campaign also targeted military personnel and members of the intelligence apparatus.
Among those arrested were Mohamed Ibrahim Saeed, the Executive Director of El-Daein locality and a member of an RSF-formed security committee, and Adam Ali, the Director-General of Finance.
Sources indicated the detentions followed field developments in Kordofan and arose from the RSF leadership’s suspicion that the detainees were in contact with the Sudanese government in Port Sudan.
The RSF has carried out similar campaigns in Nyala, South Darfur, where the airport has been under persistent attack by army aircraft.
Through its civilian administration, the RSF previously declared a state of emergency and general mobilisation in South and East Darfur states to address what it termed “escalating security challenges” and to safeguard national security, citizen safety, and the “gains of the revolution.”
It called on youth and national cadres for general mobilisation to support the RSF and urged all citizens to cooperate fully with authorities.
