Putin Thanks Brazil and China for Supporting Ukraine Peace Talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to Brazil and China for their efforts in seeking a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, following a phone call with Brazilian leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The discussion comes ahead of planned negotiations in Turkey, where global powers hope to broker a ceasefire.
Brazil and China Push for Diplomatic Solution
The Kremlin highlighted the “sincere willingness” of both Brazil and China to contribute to peace talks, as Lula—fresh from a visit to Beijing—stopped in Moscow before heading to Istanbul for mediation efforts.
Putin urged Kyiv to restart direct talks “without preconditions” and signaled openness to a temporary truce and Lula plans to invite Putin to Turkey for discussions scheduled for May 15, though Russia’s delegation remains unconfirmed.
Zelensky and Trump Add Complexity to Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demanded a full Russian ceasefire by May 12 before joining negotiations. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has also offered to meet Putin in Turkey, adding another layer to the high-stakes diplomacy.
As global tensions rise, the international community watches closely to see if these efforts can finally bring an end to Europe’s deadliest conflict in decades.
