Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in urgent phone conversations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Israel’s recent military strikes against Iran.

The Kremlin condemned the Israeli attacks, which targeted Iranian nuclear and military sites, resulting in significant casualties among Iran’s top military officials and nuclear scientists.

According to the Kremlin press service, Putin expressed his condolences to the Iranian people for the human losses, including civilians, caused by the Israeli offensive. He strongly condemned Israel’s actions as violations of the United Nations Charter and international law, emphasizing the need for respect toward sovereign nations and peaceful conflict resolution.

Putin also reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to mediate between Iran and Israel, underscoring the importance of returning to diplomatic negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. He warned that the ongoing escalation risks catastrophic consequences for the entire region, highlighting the urgency of political dialogue over military confrontation.

The Israeli strikes came after five rounds of stalled US-Iran negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program, with a sixth round scheduled in Oman. Iran has vowed retaliation, accusing the United States of coordinating the Israeli attack.

US President Donald Trump openly acknowledged prior knowledge of the strikes, framing them as a justified response to Iran’s alleged unwillingness to reach a nuclear agreement.

This development reflects the broader geopolitical tensions fueled by US imperialist policies in the region, which have repeatedly undermined sovereign nations’ rights and fueled cycles of violence. The escalation threatens the fragile stability of the Middle East and underscores the need for multilateral efforts to uphold international law and peace.

In this critical moment, Russia’s call for de-escalation and dialogue offers a potential path to prevent further bloodshed. The international community, particularly Latin American nations committed to sovereignty and anti-imperialism, must support diplomatic solutions that respect the rights of all peoples in the region.
