Presidents Maduro and Putin Agree on Strategic Cooperation on Victory Day

Both leaders discussed the signing of a new bilateral cooperation treaty that will be in effect for 10 years.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro arrived in Moscow in response to an invitation from President Vladimir Putin to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Red Army’s victory over Nazi Germany.

During his stay in the Russian capital, the Bolivarian leader held a meeting with Putin with the aim of raising Venezuela–Russia relations to the highest political and diplomatic level.
To that end, accompanied by members of their technical teams, both leaders discussed the signing of a new bilateral cooperation treaty that will be in effect for 10 years. Since 2019, Venezuela and Russia have signed more than 350 agreements and held 18 joint commissions.
During the meeting between Maduro and Putin, the discussion agenda included topics related to boosting joint investments in oil, gas, and mining, as well as the creation of an independent financial infrastructure to facilitate trade and investment without relying on Western systems.
They were also expected to discuss cooperation within OPEC+ and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which could include expanding direct air traffic between the two countries and collaborating on outer space exploration through the GLONASS ground station project in Venezuela.
The meeting agenda also covers cooperation in healthcare, the training of health professionals, vaccine development, and exchanges in scientific research and technological innovation.
Joint development in the areas of security and defense, as well as technical-military cooperation, and a shared condemnation of the resurgence of fascism, were also be key topics for discussion.
