On Sunday, citizens will head to the polls to elect 285 national legislators, 260 regional councilmembers, and 24 governors.

On Wednesday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called on citizens to remain at polling stations after casting their votes Sunday to protect them from potential attacks by far-right activists.

“I call on the Venezuelan people to stay at the polling stations after voting to protect them from saboteurs and fascists,” Maduro said.

The president made the remarks during the closing rally of the campaign for the Great Patriotic Pole Simon Bolivar (GPPSB) and the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in La Guaira state, where he described the campaign efforts of these organizations as “an exemplary, educational, joyful, and purposeful experience, full of love and happiness.”

He congratulated candidates for the National Assembly, governorships and state legislatures for traveling across the country to connect with communities, promote citizen empowerment, and train local leaders to strengthen grassroots organizations.

Maduro also highlighted the delivery of 130 public works projects related to health care infrastructure, water access, parks, housing, and youth spaces. These initiatives, he said, reflect the government’s commitment to social welfare and community development.

“Governors must focus on the communities, ensuring they receive constant attention,” Maduro said, emphasizing the need for ongoing efforts to address the needs of the Venezuelan people.

The Bolivarian leader asserted that a victory for pro-Chavista forces in the May 25 elections would consolidate “national peace and harmony,” and said the result would be “a clear message to the violent ones, who will never again govern Venezuela.”

Underscoring the importance of popular power, Maduro said that Monday, May 26, will begin with “renewed efforts” and a victorious path, reinforcing the Bolivarian legacy in the face of internal and external challenges.

On Sunday, Venezuelans will head to the polls to elect 285 national legislators for the 2026–2031 term, 260 regional councilmembers, and 24 governors.
