“We have been building a historic force with the people,” he said, referring to the upcoming elections on Sunday, July 27, in which the opposition has been invited to show whether it has the capacity for political renewal.

“This is an opportunity for them to prove that their leaders are not those old men and women —those devils— who have been failing time and again, moving from defeat to defeat and lie to lie,” he said, referring to the far-right opposition.

On Sunday, Venezuelans are set to elect mayors and councilmembers in 335 municipalities. A total of 54 national political parties and more than 20 regional parties registered with the National Electoral Council (CNE) to participate in the democratic event.

“This year, we held elections for governors and legislators. We won 23 of the 24 governorships. Now we are heading into our 33rd electoral process, and I hope it will be our 31st victory,” said the Bolivarian leader.

“I’ve had to oversee 14 elections, of which we’ve won 13. We lost the 2015 elections, and that loss was costly: we lost the National Assembly,” Maduro recalled, explaining that the loss allowed the Venezuelan far-right to push for sanctions and blockades from the United States, and even attempt an assassination.

“In the 2024 presidential election, the U.S. empire invested billions of dollars to destabilize the country. While it managed to strike us momentarily, the democratic strength of our country and of the revolutionary popular movement allowed us to quickly redirect Venezuela, restore peace, and continue developing our political, social, economic, and cultural plans,” the Bolivarian leader said.

Maduro also noted that the elections will allow for a consultation on community projects for youth, calling it “a great opportunity to support young people without political calculations in the 5,336 communal circuits.”
