President Maduro Exposes U.S. Plot Against Colombia’s Progressive Leadership
On June 10, 2025, President Nicolás Maduro delivered a powerful denunciation of a destabilization plan targeting Colombia’s leftist government led by President Gustavo Petro. Maduro identified U.S. Senator Marco Rubio as a key figure behind efforts to undermine Petro’s administration and reinstate far-right policies in the region.
“This is a clear attack on the sovereignty and democratic will of the Colombian people,” Maduro stated during a public event in Maracaibo, Zulia. He warned that these external interventions threaten the entire region’s stability and called for vigilance and unity to resist imperialist aggression.
In response to these threats, Maduro emphasized the urgent need for a robust alliance between civilian, military, and police forces in Zulia, a strategic Venezuelan border state. He highlighted the leadership of Governor Luis Caldera and called for a “new stage” of unity to protect the state from irregular armed groups allegedly supported by foreign powers.
“Zulia needs love, attention, and a firm hand to defend its peace and prosperity,” Maduro said, underscoring the importance of popular participation alongside security forces.
Proposal for Binational Economic Zone to Foster Regional Cooperation
Amid ongoing tensions, Maduro reiterated his proposal to President Gustavo Petro to establish a Binational Economic Zone between Zulia and Colombia. This initiative aims to promote economic integration, social development, and cooperation across the shared border, countering divisive forces and fostering solidarity.
Governor Caldera committed to aligning Zulia’s development with national goals through the “7 Transformations” and “13 Productive Engines” programs, aiming to boost local productivity and social welfare.
Solidarity with Cristina Fernández and Regional Progressive Movements
President Maduro also expressed unwavering support for former Argentine President Cristina Fernández, who faces political persecution amid a broader right-wing offensive against popular leaders in Latin America.
“From Zulia, we send strength and solidarity to President Cristina and the Argentine people. Long live Perón! Long live Latin American unity!” he proclaimed, situating Venezuela as a defender of progressive regional movements.
President Nicolás Maduro’s denunciation of U.S. interference and his call for civic-military unity in Zulia reflect a broader struggle to protect Latin America’s progressive governments from imperialist destabilization. The proposed binational economic cooperation with Colombia and solidarity with regional leaders underscore Venezuela’s commitment to regional integration and social justice.
