In a message filled with political symbolism and revolutionary sentiment, the Bolivian president reaffirmed the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation between his country and Venezuela, in a regional context marked by an increasing offensive against progressive governments.
“We had a pleasant meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, with whom we reaffirmed our ties of brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation on energy and scientific matters between our sister nations. Through him, we send a fraternal greeting to our brother President Nicolas Maduro,” Arce wrote Thursday on his official social media accounts.
The meeting between Arce and Gil took place at the Sucre’s Freedom House, the symbolic epicenter of Bolivian independence. There, alongside national authorities, social movements and international guests, the Venezuelan foreign minister was received with honors in a ceremony that combined historical memory, anti-imperialist resistance and continental projection.
One of the most emotional moments came when Gil presented a replica of the sword of Gen. Rafael Urdaneta Farias, a hero of Venezuelan independence and lieutenant of Simon Bolivar.
“This symbol represents the loyalty between our peoples and to the cause of liberation,” said the Venezuelan diplomat, accompanied by members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, who carried the sword’s standard as an emblem of revolutionary unity.
In an interview with teleSUR during his visit, Gil emphasized that Venezuela had joined Bolivia “in this great celebration that marks the path against colonialism and imperialism.”
He also mentioned that the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), of which both countries are active members, remains a key pillar for regional integration, the defense of sovereignty, and South-South cooperation in energy, science and social issues.
Arce and Gil used the occasion to review shared challenges—from the economic blockade imposed by the U.S. on Venezuela to geopolitical tensions affecting the stability of progressive LATAM governments.
They agreed that unity is not just an ideal but a tool for survival in the face of “modern fascism” and structural attacks on the rights of workers, farmers, Indigenous peoples, and environmental movements.
