In an extraordinary session of the United Nations Security Council convened by Iran, China’s representative Fu Cong delivered a powerful statement denouncing the use of force as a means to resolve the escalating conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

Fu Cong emphasized that military strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, which operate under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), set a dangerous precedent that threatens the global non-proliferation regime and international law.

China’s delegation pointedly reminded the international community that the current crisis was precipitated by the United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018.

This move, coupled with the reinstatement and intensification of sanctions against Iran, undermined diplomatic efforts and escalated tensions in the region. Fu Cong underscored that these actions made it impossible for Iran to enjoy the benefits of the agreement, thereby stalling negotiations and increasing instability.

Contrary to accusations, China highlighted Iran’s continued compliance with its nuclear non-proliferation obligations and its consistent diplomatic engagement. Iran has repeatedly affirmed that it does not seek nuclear weapons and has constructively participated in negotiations, demonstrating sincerity in pursuing peaceful solutions.

China, alongside Russia and Pakistan, welcomed the recent ceasefire as a crucial step toward de-escalation and urged all parties to build on this momentum. Fu Cong emphasized that while the cessation of hostilities is a positive development, true and lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through sustained political dialogue and negotiation.

He called on all stakeholders to commit fully to diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and prevent any future flare-ups that could destabilize the region further.

The teaxt reads: China’s representative to the United Nations Security Council, Fu Cong, stated, in the context of the extraordinary session convened by Iran, that force is not the way to resolve the war between Tehran and Israel.

China condemned the recent US strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites as violations of the UN Charter and international law, calling on the Security Council to fulfill its responsibility in maintaining global peace and security. The Chinese delegation expressed readiness to work with the international community to restore stability in the Middle East through justice and constructive diplomacy.

China’s stance at the UN reflects a principled defense of sovereignty, international law, and multilateral diplomacy, aligning with the broader left-wing perspective that condemns imperialist interventions and advocates for peaceful conflict resolution through political dialogue.
