Nicaragua Congratulates Venezuela on Its Sovereign Elections

The Bolivarian forces won 23 out of 24 governorships, reflecting strong public support for the revolutionary process.

On Sunday, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega congratulated the Venezuelan people on what he called the country’s latest victory in the defense of sovereignty and dignity, following the completion of legislative and regional elections.

In a letter addressed to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and other senior Venezuelan officials, the historic leader of the Sandinista National Liberation Front wrote:

“In our American lands, Venezuela’s triumph today is our triumph. We celebrate with immense joy this new victory in the campaigns for sovereignty, dignity, and the rights of our peoples.

We are living in a new era, with many new days ahead in the progress of work, security, peace, and well-being for that heroic and resilient people.

The infinite spirit of Commander Hugo Chavez encourages, inspires, enlightens, and strengthens these paths of hope, faith, and well-deserved victories.

Let’s move forward! Always further!”

At the close of Sunday’s May 25 electoral process, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) announced that the Great Patriotic Pole Simon Bolivar (GPPSB) secured 82.68% of the valid votes for national lawmakers.

The ruling coalition received 4,553,484 votes out of 5,507,324 ballots cast, winning 40 out of 50 seats, CNE President Elvis Amoroso said during a press conference in Caracas.

Voter turnout reached 42.63% of the active electoral registry, with more than 5.5 million Venezuelans casting their votes. With 93.01% of polling stations counted, the Great Patriotic Pole coalition also won 23 of the country’s 24 governorships, reflecting strong public support for President Nicolas Maduro and the revolutionary process, according to the CNE.
