Following the closure of polling stations on June 1, 2025, Luisa María Alcalde, national president of Morena, confidently announced that the party has secured victories in 22 out of the 39 municipalities contested in Durango. This electoral success underscores Morena’s expanding grassroots support and consolidates its position as the leading political force in the state.

Among the municipalities won, Alcalde highlighted Gómez Palacio—the second most important city in Durango and a former stronghold of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). “Winning Gómez Palacio is a decisive step for our movement,” she stated, emphasizing the strategic importance of this city within the Laguna region.

Other notable victories include Canelas, Coneto de Comonfort, Guadalupe Victoria, Guanaceví, Mapimí, and Ocampo, reflecting Morena’s broad territorial reach and resonance with local communities.

The June 1 elections in Durango were part of a broader democratic exercise that included the selection of 39 municipal presidencies, 39 sindicaturas, and 327 regidurías, totaling 405 positions with three-year terms and the possibility of reelection.
