Eleven Middle Eastern nations voiced their support for Syria’s sovereignty and stability through a joint communiqué, in which they rejected any form of foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs and condemned the repeated Israeli attacks, amid unverified reports of ad hoc head of government Ahmed al-Sharaa leaving Damascus.
The statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt and Türkiye on Thursday.
The foreign ministers expressed approval of the newly reached ceasefire in Sweida’s southern region and urged all parties to enforce it thoroughly, while rejecting violence, sectarianism, and hate speech. According to their declaration, this deal plays a vital role in maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity, ensuring the safety of civilians, and reinforcing both legal order and the nation’s independence.
On the same line, they called out the Zionist entity for its blatant violations of international laws by conducting airstrikes on Syrian territories.
Al-Sharaa’s transitional government withdrew its troops from Al-Sweida on Thursday following sectarian clashes, aiming to de-escalate the violence through Arab-American mediation. Israel’s genocidal regime conducted airstrikes on Damascus, while groups in Daraa declared a general mobilization.
