The president emphasized that the agreement will be signed within the framework of respect for national sovereignty, mutual trust, and shared responsibility. In this regard, she emphasized that Mexico rejected initial U.S. proposals that called for greater intervention by U.S. forces in Mexican territory.
“The United States had proposed greater intervention in Mexican territory, but we said no,” she stated.
The head of state clarified that “we will never sign anything that, from our perspective, violates sovereignty or our territory, never.” “They may have the intention to do so, but not within that framework,” she stated.
Likewise, she emphasized that “it’s been several months of work. They requested issues that were unacceptable to us, and we also proposed that there be several issues in this understanding that they felt should not be included in this document. The agreement reached is very good.”
It was agreed to conduct a joint investigation into the origin of the chemical precursors used to manufacture fentanyl, while the Mexican government emphasized that there will be greater emphasis on preventive campaigns to address the destructive effects of drugs.

Similarly, the Mexican president has stated that the United States will strengthen measures to reduce illegal arms trafficking into Mexico.
On another bilateral issue, regarding the border closure due to the screwworm case, the president commented that, as a result of technical meetings between the two countries, it is anticipated that the full opening could occur in November.
As an advance measure, agreements were announced with cattle ranchers in Sonora, Coahuila, and Durango to strengthen meat production for the domestic market. These agreements will later be extended to producers in Chihuahua and Tamaulipas.
