President Sheinbaum urges non-intervention as Trump admits authorizing CIA operations against President Maduro.
On Thursday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also called for respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty when asked about recent U.S. military operations in the Caribbean Sea.

“Self-determination of peoples—no to interference or invasion,” she said, clarifying that her stance was not only personal but also aligned with the Mexican Constitution.
Sheinbaum’s remarks came amid a growing climate of U.S. military aggression near Venezuela, which several Latin American governments have described as a threat to regional peace and stability.
On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he had authorized the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to carry out covert operations aimed at destabilizing President Nicolas Maduro’s government.
A few hours later, Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry responded by condemning what it called “extravagant and belligerent” U.S. statements.
“This unprecedented assertion constitutes a serious violation of international law and of the United Nations Charter, which obliges the international community to denounce such reckless and inconceivable claims,” the ministry said in a statement, expressing concern over the U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean.
“It is evident that such maneuvers seek to legitimize a regime-change operation with the ultimate goal of seizing Venezuela’s oil resources. Likewise, the U.S. president’s remarks aim to stigmatize Venezuelan and Latin American migration, fueling xenophobic and dangerous narratives,” it added.
During a meeting with fishing industry leaders on Wednesday, Venezuelan President Maduro condemned Washington’s attempt to impose “warmongering narratives” in international relations.
“With its supremacist ideology, the U.S. empire believes it can make everyone think the same, follow one order, and obey one command. That worldview is outdated,” the Bolivarian leader said.
