His remarks came after his mother, former President Cristina Fernandez (2007–2015), was sentenced to six years in prison and given a lifetime ban from holding public office.
“What is at stake is the future of our country and the people who live in it,” said the leader of the Peronist group La Campora in an interview with C5N.
Kirchner highlighted the support Fernandez has received in recent days from her followers, accused the judiciary of violating “the rules of the game,” and said the ruling against his mother was an attempt to “suppress those who oppose the interests of the powerful.”

The left-wing lawmaker denied that his mother’s conviction is accelerating his own political rise within the Peronist movement. He also rejected the idea that this episode of lawfare weakens his party electorally.
“Things will only get more complicated if this turns into a festival of vanity and egos. That’s the trap the Peronist leadership must avoid,” Kirchner said, implicitly referring to the growing internal divisions that have affected the movement in recent months.
Kirchner firmly opposed any suggestion that Peronists should boycott the upcoming elections in protest of Fernandez’s disqualification from political life.
“We must go vote, even if it’s a blank ballot, because the representative system is damaged, and we must exercise our right,” he added.
The Supreme Court gave Cristina Fernandez five days to appear before the judiciary. The 72-year-old politician, who plans to appeal to international institution in an effort to overturn the conviction, has asked the Court to allow her to serve her sentence under house arrest.
