During a recent televised address, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro challenged the dominant narratives surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that the roots of the crisis are geopolitical—not religious.
“This is not a religious conflict,” Maduro said. “The State of Israel was created to colonize the Middle East and Central Asia, to plunder the wealth of those regions and subjugate their peoples”.
The president also questioned the representation of traditional Jewish identity in Israel’s current leadership, saying that modern Zionism has diverged from the faith’s historical and spiritual traditions. He suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not represent the lineage of the ancient Jewish tribes.

“The Jews of the 12 tribes are not the ones in power today,” he said. “Those leading Israel today represent an expansionist project rooted in Western imperialism.”
Maduro cited the ideology of Zionist expansionism, referencing longstanding claims that some factions envision territorial control “from the Jordan River to the Euphrates and beyond.”
His remarks come amid renewed Israeli military operations in Gaza and growing international concern over humanitarian conditions in Palestinian territories. The Venezuelan government has consistently supported the Palestinian cause and denounced what it calls Israeli apartheid and aggression.
Since the presidency of Hugo Chávez, Venezuela has severed diplomatic ties with Israel and has positioned itself as a vocal critic of Zionism on the global stage.and geopolitics in the Middle East.
