Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has condemned what he called a “Nazi terrorist attack” by Ukrainian forces targeting Russian railway infrastructure, reaffirming Caracas’ steadfast support for Moscow amid the ongoing conflict.

Russia Accuses Ukraine of Ordering Bridge Explosions That Derailed Trains

“From Venezuela, we reject the Nazi terrorist attack against the Russian people’s right to peace,” Maduro said during a televised address, emphasizing that Russian President Vladimir Putin “is seeking peace.”

The Venezuelan leader criticized Ukraine’s tactics as deliberate attacks on civilians. “And the more the Russian Army, heir to the Red Army, advances against the Nazis of Ukraine, what does Ukraine do? Terrorism. They are Nazis: they blow up bridges, they blow up railways, they attack civilians,” he stated.

His remarks followed two deadly attacks on Russian infrastructure that Moscow has classified as acts of terrorism. On the night of May 31, a bridge in the Bryansk region was blown up, causing debris to fall onto a passenger train. Seven people died and more than 100 were injured. Hours later, in Kursk province, a freight train derailed and fell from a damaged railway bridge, injuring the engineer and two crew members.

Russia’s Investigative Committee accused Ukrainian operatives of carefully planning the attacks to maximize civilian casualties. “It is clear that the terrorists, acting under orders from the Kyiv regime, planned everything with utmost precision to cause hundreds of civilian casualties,” said committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko.

The attacks occurred on the eve of the second round of peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv in Istanbul, fueling speculation that they were meant to sabotage diplomatic efforts.

Argentine political analyst Eduardo Vior suggested that such actions reflect Ukraine’s increasing desperation on the battlefield. “Defeats on the battlefield drive Ukraine to more desperate actions,” he said. “The Vladimir Zelensky regime, inherently out of control, is pushed by external interests.”

Venezuela and Russia have maintained a close strategic alliance for over two decades, cooperating across energy, defense, and technology sectors. Caracas has consistently condemned U.S. and NATO sanctions against Moscow and defended Russia’s sovereignty and right to self-defense amid NATO’s eastward expansion.

In return, Russia has voiced support for Venezuela against foreign interference and economic sanctions. This enduring alliance has made Caracas one of the most vocal Latin American governments backing Moscow amid the current geopolitical tensions.

“Caracas stands firm with Moscow,” Maduro concluded, “in defense of a multipolar world and the right to peace.”
