The Citizen Revolution leader demands the publication of all tally sheets and a public audit of the electoral process.
On Thursday, former presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez expanded on the allegations of irregularities committed during the second round of the elections held on April 13.
RELATED:
According to the official results presented by the National Electoral Council (CNE), current President Daniel Noboa won with 56% of the votes, while the Citizen Revolution candidate obtained only 44%.
This latter percentage was significantly lower than what most voter intention polls had attributed to Gonzalez, who had remained the favorite to win for weeks.
As a result, Gonzalez denounced a “grotesque fraud” and demanded a vote recount and international audit. She argued that the tally sheets were altered after being uploaded to the CNE system.
Official results also reported more votes than registered voters in some areas, indicating an artificial reduction in traditional levels of electoral absenteeism.
– vote buying with public funds
– electoral instructions being taken
– more votes than voters
– altered or incomplete tally sheets
Noboa “has seized power under the fictitious shadow of democracy”
The leftist former presidential candidate also denounced that most of the vote-receiving boards did not record the total number of voters. More specifically, she pointed out the following:
– 1,984 tally sheets lack the required signatures of electoral officials.
– 1,526 tally sheets show vote totals that do not match the number of voters.
– 1,582 tally sheets contain results that deviate significantly from the average of their polling station.
– The unusual reduction in the number of blank ballots suggests the manipulation of more than 150,000 ballots.
In light of all this, Gonzalez demanded the full publication of all tally sheets and a public audit of the electoral process.
Currently, while the Ecuadorian right celebrates the results of elections riddled with multiple irregularities, social and progressive political organizations have characterized the events as the expression of a grotesque electoral fraud carried out by an “illegitimate” and “neo-fascist” government.
